Wondering how do I price my fine art murals & installations ?

Updated: Jul 27, 2021

As I understand what a special thing is commissioning your own custom piece of fine art interior, in this blog post I aim to answer the most frequently asked questions that I get about Fine Art Murals & Installations.

Upon initial inquiry , I ask more details about the project and share the appropriate price sheet if my prospective client haven't seen it already, which helps shaping an idea about an approximate estimate of the artwork based on the size of the wall enabling clients to see from the start if my prices are within their budget for their project. Once the client is happy, we move on to Step 1.

Step 1 - Design & research:

I either match the interiors/mood board:

At the initial stage we agree with the client on the colour palette that includes existing colour matching from interiors or from inspiration visuals/mood board.

Followed by this once colours are established, we agree on the colour orders of layers and the total amount of layers.

Then I present a mockup detailing each layers which once approved by the client will be what I am working from.

Or

Based on the client's intentions, what they wish to achieve with the artwork such as calm, relaxation, joy etc I present a mood board detailing the colour palette I suggest.

Followed by this once colours are established, we agree on the colour orders of layers and the total amount of layers.

Then I present a mockup detailing each layers which once approved by the client will be what I am working from.

Of course no two works will be the same since I am creating intuitive abstract expressionist artworks.

In both cases I charge an Initial fee of £150 for design up to 10 colours (including 30 layers of complexity such as my latest collection) and £10/each additional colours. This covers my time for research ,design and material costs.

There are additional costs:

- if I have to travel outside of London and if I need accommodation for overnight stay

- also if the wall is not ready to paint on and requires additional work

Step 2 - Rendering:

My prices start from £150/sq metre for murals and £300/sq metre for removable fine art installations both with a minimum of 3 sqm.

A deposit of 50% is required 2 weeks before I start the work to plan and during this time I won't be available for other jobs.

The final 50% is due on the final day of finishing the mural.

If there is something specific required, I will provide a custom quote on request.

For example, the wall I'm currently working on is 7.668 sqm the price would be £1150.2 + design&materials fee of £150 = £1300.2 and for this size and complexity of mural I would estimate a week to be complete.
